Que faire de ses vieux pantalons ?

What to do with your old pants?

Your closet is full of pants, yet you only wear two. Maybe it's time to declutter, right? Here's a hand!

Sort your clothes

First things first. You need to clear out that closet a bit, and that means getting rid of some of your pants. Take them all out and divide them into several piles:

  • the ones you haven't worn since high school, which no longer fit you
  • the ones you put this month
  • those that are unwearable (a hole on the buttock, a broken zipper, a huge discoloration stain, etc.)
  • those you love a lot but have abandoned because you don't have the courage to sew on a button (yes, it happens to us too)

Keep the ones you put on this month and those that can be edited. For the rest, we'll tell you everything!

Option #1: Give them to your girlfriend/mom/friend who loves DIY

You can't stand the sight of those pants in paint anymore, but you might know someone who would love them! Pants can be recycled in many ways. A DIY enthusiast will see a real gold mine in them. Your girlfriend can also find boyfriend jeans for less if you don't have too big a size difference.

Editor's note: Be careful not to give her too much freedom, or she might start stealing all your clothes. Sorting, yes, but keep something to wear anyway!

Option #2: Make it into shorts

If it's the bottom of your pants that's causing the problem or if you're nostalgic for the 90s... cut them off! The result can be quite surprising and you'll have brand new shorts for this summer. Think about it, technically it takes up less space in the wardrobe, if you really don't want to part with these pants 😉

Option #3: Have it retouched

A missing button, a loose seam, a pair of pants that are a little too long, or a damaged hem... Nothing is impossible. If you value your pants, visit an alterations specialist to see what they can do. For a few euros, you could have a brand new pair of pants that will last you a few more years!

Option #4: Give it away

Either way, you don't like it anymore, whether it's as shorts, with that little flaw missing, or even recycled into a bedside lamp. You don't like it anymore, but it can make someone else happy! Donate your pants (or even any other clothing) to the Red Cross or to organizations like Le Relai. They collect our clothes to give them to those who might need them. Don't hesitate to also drop off your slightly worn clothes; they will be recycled and given a second life.
